Open Router provides a way to access many different models by many different labs (Open AI, Anthropic, Google, Meta) with a single free account.

Why OpenRouter?

You can use Runchat without creating an account, just visit runchat.app/editor and have fun! This free service uses Google’s Gemini or Meta’s Llama models for prompts, and restricts access to file uploads. If you would like access to other models (such as those by Anthropic or OpenAI) you can link an Open Router account. Open Router provides access to a lot of great models - some entirely for free.

Create an OpenRouter Account

Visit openrouter.ai and click Sign In. That’s it.

Link your OpenRouter Account in Runchat

Go to https://www.runchat.app/dashboard/keys and sign in if you have to. Then click the Link OpenRouter button. This will take you to OpenRouter where you will be asked to sign in if you have not already, and approve Runchat’s authorization request. You can set a credit limit if you want to, then click Authorize.

You will then be taken back to the Runchat Dashboard, where after a second the Link OpenRouter button should change to a Remove button. You can use this to remove your linked OpenRouter account if you need to. You can now start using the OpenRouter models in your next prompt.

Installing additional models

After you have linked OpenRouter you can choose which models you would like to use with the Prompt node. OpenRouter provides routing to most foundation models from large labs as well as many experiments by the open source community. To add a model, select it from the list then click install. Your OpenRouter account will be charged for any tokens you (or anonymous users of apps you have published) use with the selected model provider.

OpenRouter has very strict rate limits for working with free models (20 requests per minute and 200 per day) and it is often more practical to work with low cost paid models. You can find all rate limits here https://openrouter.ai/docs/limits
